President Lasso orders the liquidation of Seguros Sucre


The firm has been involved in disputed contracts with other public companies such as Petroecuador. State entities should avoid contracting with it.

Through Executive Decree No.82,The President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, ordered the Board of Directors of the National Finance Corporation (CFN) to take the necessary actions to initiate the voluntary liquidation of Seguros Sucre S.A.

In this sense, the first step is the appointment of a liquidator,who has not or has had any link with the company. In addition, the president established that there must be the cessation of new businesses and the issuance, extension and/or renewal of insurance policies.

As of the decree, issued on June 15, 2021, the CFN Board of Directors must report monthly to Lasso and the Legal Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic, the planning and the acts executed to comply with the liquidation of Seguros Sucre S.A.

All public entities and agencies must refrain from contracting with that company and only contracts signed previously must be respected. Compliance with this provision will be the responsibility of the National Public Procurement Service (Sercop).

One of the most questioned contracts of Seguros Sucre has been the one it has maintained, with a series of irregular extensions, with Petroecuador.

During the correista decade, the company had almost all the public insurance contracts. Currently, a case of corruption, with bribes involved, is being processed in the US justice system. (JS)
