Vycon, Inc. (Vycon) is a designer, developer and manufacturer of flywheel-based energy storage systems. The Company serves the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) industry by eliminating or supplementing lead acid batteries. The Vycon system is used in electric motors and diesel generators on shipyard cranes, rail power substations and wind power generation systems. The flywheel uses a permanent magnet motor generator design, which levitates within an electromagnetic field, and enables its flywheel energy storage systems to charge and discharge at high rates. Vycon’s REGEN Crane System system supplies or absorbs power, back and forth. This results in the supply of power for alternating current (AC) motors during the up cycle and power regeneration during the down cycle. REGEN Rail System provides fast-cycling power for transit systems at rush hours. The VYCON Direct Connect (VDC) is a high-speed flywheel system, which provides a ride-through to backup power.
