Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (the "Authority"), created by the Illinois General Assembly as the Metropolitan Fair and Exposition Authority in 1955, and renamed in 1989, was established to promote, operate, and maintain fairs, expositions, meetings, and conventions in the Chicago metropolitan area and, in connection therewith, to construct, equip, and maintain buildings for such purposes. The Authority, also known as MPEA, owns McCormick Place, the largest convention center in North America, and seeks to promote and operate conventions, fairs, expositions and meetings in the state of Illinois in a dedicated effort to strengthen the local economy. It also owns the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, Marriott Marquis Chicago, and the Wintrust Arena. The Authority's Board of Directors is appointed by the Governor of Illinois and the Mayor of Chicago. The Chairman is selected by the MPEA Board.
