Business Summary
National Steel Corporation is an integrated steel producer in the United States and is engaged in the manufacture and sale of a variety of flat-rolled carbon steel products, including hot-rolled, cold-rolled, galvanized, tin- and chrome-plated steels. The Company targets high-value-added applications of flat-rolled carbon steel for sale primarily to the automotive, construction and container markets. On March 6, 2002, National Steel and 41 of its domestic subsidiaries filed voluntary petitions for relief under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code. The Company filed for protection under Chapter 11 in order to obtain the necessary time to stabilize its finances and to attempt to develop a plan of reorganization. On November 5, 2002, the Bankruptcy Court entered an order that extended the exclusive period within which only the debtor can file a plan of reorganization through April 7, 2003.
