MMC net profit dips to RM60.93m


KUALA LUMPUR: MMC Corp Bhd’s net profit in the third quarter ended Sept 30 fell 8.2 per cent to RM60.93 million from RM66.34 million in the same period last year.

MMC said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia yesterday this was mainly due to slower progress of the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit-Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (KVMRT-SSP) Line and lower passenger and cargo volumes at Senai Airport arising from the Movement Control Order.

Its revenue in the same quarter declined 10.2 per cent to RM1.12 billion from RM1.25 billion previously.

For the nine months, MMC’s net profit increased 4.9 per cent to RM196.17 million from RM187.08 million, while revenue fell 11.7 per cent to RM3.19 billion from RM3.62 billion previously.

MMC said the improved nine-month net profit was due to the higher volume handled at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, gain on disposal of an asset by Johor Port Bhd, higher share of results of associates, namely Malakoff Corp Bhd, and lower finance cost incurred.

MMC group managing director Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh said the group was committed to strengthening its financial and market positions by focusing on operational excellence and cost optimisation, while exploring new business opportunities.

“Notwithstanding the exceptional challenges this year, the group expects the financial performance for the current year to be satisfactory.

“We will continue leveraging our collective businesses’ strengths and long-standing industry experience and expertise to contribute towards industry growth and nation building,” he added.
